If you own a Dolce Gusto coffee machine, then you have already discovered how delightful a perfectly brewed cup can be on a day-to-day basis. Krups Dolce Gusto coffee machines are renowned for making it easy to enjoy a good cup of coffee, thanks to their coffee capsules.

But to keep brewing perfect coffee, your machine must be well maintained. Descaling a Dolce Gusto coffee machine is essential if you want to keep running for as long as possible. So, let’s have a look at how to descale the Dolce Gusto coffee machine.

WHY DESCALE YOUR DOLCE GUSTO COFFEE MACHINE?

nespresso or dolce gusto pods?

Have you ever noticed small white spots appearing on your machine? Or found that your coffee is flowing more and more slowly?

These issues are typically caused by a build-up of limescale, which settles on the internal pipes of your coffee machine when exposed to high temperatures. Even if you use filtered tap water, limescale build-up is inevitable and can damage your coffee machine over time.

As limescale residue accumulates, it obstructs the pipes, making it difficult for water to flow through and creating a loud and unpleasant noise with every use. Additionally, the presence of limescale can affect the taste of your beverage.

Descaling allows you to regularly remove the limescale that is present in your machine’s internal system. The positive effects of regular descaling include:

  • Prolonging the lifespan of your coffee capsule machine
  • Reducing additional costs related to repairs caused by limescale and other issues
  • Preserving the taste of your coffee in terms of body, aroma, and intensity
  • Minimising the noise generated by the coffee machine during the brewing

By performing regular descaling, you ensure that your Dolce Gusto machine remains in optimal condition, delivering delightful coffee experiences with every brew.

DESCALING YOUR DOLCE GUSTO COFFEE MACHINE: HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU DESCALE YOUR DOLCE GUSTO?

To prevent your machine from accumulating too much limescale, we recommend descaling it every 2 to 3 months, even if your machine seems to be in good health.

There are a few warning signs to look out for, such as unusual noises coming from your machine or a change in the taste of your coffee.

However, you don’t need to keep a scrupulous record of every time you descale, as recent models are fitted with an alarm system. When it’s time to descale your coffee machine, the power button will turn orange.

Can I use white vinegar to descale?

There are many recommendations for descaling coffee machines using white vinegar. However, many manufacturers advise against it, as this product does remove limescale, but is very acidic and can damage your coffee maker.

Using white vinegar can gradually eat away at your machine’s pipes and damage the seals. As a result, your Nescafé Dolce Gusto machine will no longer be watertight and may leak. The coffee maker would then become completely unusable.

However, you can use white vinegar on a damp cloth to clean the outside of your Dolce Gusto machine.

How do I turn off the orange descaling indicator?

The orange light is a descaling indicator that is triggered every 300 pods. The number of pods counted equates to one press on the hot or cold water button, so a drink may require 2 pods for a single cup.

If you descale without switching to descaling mode, the orange light will remain on because the capsule counter will not be reset. Enter descaling mode on your machine by switching it off and pressing the power button for 5 seconds.

Once the descaling mode has been activated, the capsule counter will be reset to zero and the orange light will stop flashing. You’re now back on track for 300 capsules of quality coffee.

You now know how to descale your Dolce Gusto pod machine. Regular descaling ensures the quality of your beverages and prolongs the life of your machine. Remember to clean the other parts of your machine every month by placing the detachable parts in the dishwasher and wiping the rest with a damp cloth. Now that your machine is descaled and ready to start brewing again, be sure to take a look at our selection of Dolce Gusto pods, just for you!
